Phil Mackenzie brings his 25 years’ of experience to the geotechnical consulting industry via his new venture, FDS.
Phil was a co-founder and technical director of the piling company Advanced Foundation Solutions, established in 2002, and remained as the technical manager after AFS was acquired by Bachy Soletanche until March 2017. Prior to this time, he has worked for Connell Wagner, Douglas Partners and Wagstaff Piling.
During his career, he has
Conducted geotechnical site investigations.
Designed piled foundations and retaining wall solutions.
Been involved in all aspects of foundation construction from machine operation to concrete placement.
Managed all aspects of foundation quality control. Some examples include; CFA piling machine monitoring and developing electronic, tablet based ITP checklists for concrete placement in segmentally cased bored piles.
Became an accredited writer / assessor for competency verification for piling machine operators.
Performed all aspects of foundation testing and analysis for both pile capacity and integrity.
Some notable projects where Phil has had significant technical input include:
Barangaroo South Building Foundations utilising drill fluid and ground stabilisation techniques.
Very high strength (120MPa+) rock drilling for the RMS, Berry By-Pass project.
Barangaroo South Salt Water Intake Structure, secant pile retaining wall without anchors. This project has been the topic of a presentation at a recent IPQC conference.
LNG delivery works in central Queensland, including developing bespoke construction techniques for dynamically-isolated foundation piles.
Clermont Mine Dump Hopper, project management and ground stabilisation methods design facilitating 24/7 shift construction.
